Directions
1
The night before you're going to cook these, soak two cups of dry navy beans.
2
Rinse your beans in cold water.
3
Place them into a large bowl and cover them with water by at least 1 inch.
4
Place a lid on the top and allow to soak for 10 to 12 hours.
5
Drain those soaked beans and rinse.
6
Put your beans into a large pot and cover in water by at least 1 inch.
7
Bring that to a hard boil.
8
Reduce the heat down to a low boil or a hard simmer, cover it, and cook for an hour.
9
To a large mixing bowl, place in your tomato sauce, molasses, maple syrup, brown sugar, salt, and dry mustard.
10
Whisk the sauce ingredients well and set it aside.
11
Turn the oven on to 300°F.
12
Place one pound of ground beef into your skillet and season it generously.
13
Cook the ground beef until it is no longer pink.
14
Add in the onion and cook until the onions become translucent.
15
Drain the beans and return them to the pot.
16
Add the peppers to the skillet and allow that to cook down just a few minutes.
17
Drain the grease.
18
Combine the beans, ground beef, sauce, onions, and peppers.
19
Give it a good stir.
20
Place into your bean pot or your favorite casserole dish.
21
Drizzle a little tomato juice over the top just to loosen things up a little bit.
22
Place a lid on the top or cover with aluminum foil.
23
Put a cookie sheet into the oven.
24
Place the bean pot on top of the cookie sheet.
25
Bake at 300°F for 2 hours and 30 minutes.
26
Uncover it and stir.
27
Allow to cook for another 45 minutes or until your beans are tender.
