Directions
1
Add yeast, two cups of warm water (between 105 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit), and a little bit of honey (or sugar) to a mixing bowl.
2
Mix the yeast, water, and honey, and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes foamy (proving the yeast).
3
Add the remaining honey, salt, and canola oil to the liquid mixture.
4
Add three cups of all-purpose flour to the liquid mixture and combine.
5
Transfer the mixture to a stand mixer with a dough hook and mix on speed 2.
6
Gradually add the remaining flour (two cups) to the mixer, a half cup at a time.
7
Mix on medium speed for 4 to 5 minutes, scraping down the sides as needed, until the dough collects into a ball.
8
Lightly oil a bowl, place the dough in it, and cover with a cloth.
9
Let the dough prove for 2-3 hours in a warm, dry place until it doubles in size.
10
Punch the dough down to release the air.
11
Grease the bottom and sides of two loaf pans.
12
Cut the dough in half.
13
Shape each half of the dough into long loaves and place them into the prepared loaf pans.
14
Take two pieces of plastic wrap, spray them lightly with cooking spray, and lay them gently over the dough in the pans.
15
Allow the dough to have a second rise for about an hour.
16
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
17
Bake the loaves for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
18
Brush the tops of the baked loaves with a little melted butter.
19
Let the bread cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
Ingredients
5 cups All-purpose flour
2 teaspoons Kosher salt
2 cups Hot water
1 tablespoon Active dry yeast
2 tablespoons Canola oil
0.25 cup Honey
Butter
Equipment
Mixing bowl
Stand mixer with dough hook
Loaf pans
Plastic wrap
Wire rack
Tips
Ensure your yeast is active by checking for foam after mixing with warm water and a little honey/sugar. If it doesn't foam, discard and start again.
Let the dough prove in a warm, dry place. The video suggests 3 hours, even though the recipe calls for 2 hours.
Spray plastic wrap lightly with cooking spray before covering the dough for the second rise to prevent sticking.
Brush the baked loaves with melted butter immediately after removing from the oven for a nice finish.
