Directions
- 1Melt isomalt nibs in a bowl to create geode crystals.
- 2Place a sheet of parchment paper in a 6 inch round cake pan.
- 3Pour melted isomalt into the pan and spread evenly.
- 4Let isomalt cool down then peel it away from the parchment paper.
- 5Use a torch to remove fogginess and any imperfections.
- 6CAREFULLY break the isomalt to create shards.
- 7Break rock candy into smaller pieces.
- 8Prepare a cake and carve it into a half sphere shape.
- 9Cover the cake with green buttercream and chill.
- 10Mix food safe molding putty and create molds using rocks.
- 11Roll out gray modeling chocolate and press it into the molds.
- 12Peel the molds off the rocks and place them on the cake.
- 13Carve out the center of the cake, creating a hollow interior.
- 14Cover the top with modeling chocolate, trim and blend.
- 15Paint the inside of the geode with purple food coloring.
- 16Add the rock candy pieces to the geode, painted side down.
- 17Add some sharp isomalt shards along the edges.
- 18Fill the space between the dark gray modeling chocolate and the rock candy with light gray modeling chocolate.
- 19Paint the outside of the cake with different shades of food coloring for a realistic effect.
